~ History of Joshua
The community of Joshua was first surveyed in 1880 for the first plat and the community came together in 1881. when the railroad arrived. In ten years, the population grew to 300 residents. It had all the amenities that a small town would need at the time. A much-needed public water system came to the community in 1904. Joshua real estate was mostly farmlands in the beginning; its settlers grew orchards, corn, potatoes and cotton. By 1915, the community had two cotton gins, a bank, a newspaper and four churches.
Joshua was officially incorporated in 1950 and Ted Strube was the first mayor of the community. For many years, Joshua had a slow growth in population. This, however, has changed. The Joshua population is now on the rise. In 1980, the population was 1,470. This grew to 3,828 by 1990 because of the close proximity to Fort Worth. By 1990, seven manufacturers that made items such as boat trailer, aluminum products, leather goods and windows joined the Joshua real estate market. The Joshua Tribune, which first published in 1970, was located in Joshua until the early 1990s. Now, it is located in Burleson, Texas.
